With the Coronavirus pandemic becoming a global concern, the lives of almost every American have become affected in some way. A lot of uncertainty still remains about what is and is not safe, and how we should all be adjusting our daily routine. In the midst of this uncertainty, many Americans have started to ask tough questions about what services are and are not essential—for instance, are plumbers essential workers? Keep reading to learn what you need to know, courtesy of our experienced plumbing pros at Service Today!
Plumbers Declared Essential Workers by White House
The good news is that yes, plumbers are considered essential service people! In a ruling made by the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency – a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – plumbers were deemed “essential critical infrastructure workers.” The decision finds that “Workers such as plumbers, electricians, exterminators, and other service providers” are considered essential because they “provide services that are necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences.”
What does this mean for you? It is still perfectly okay to call a plumber to come and fix a problem in your home, even during this national crisis. While it is important to take the spread of COV-19 seriously and do everything we can to flatten the curve, there are also times where it simply would not be possible to exist in our homes without the assistance of essential service providers. Thankfully, the government has declared plumbers to be among those essential service providers.
